The 2006 Italy World Cup jersey is one of the most popular and historic for Azzurri fans. Italy won the World Cup after beating France 5–3 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time. As well as Andrea Pirlo being awarded man of the match, the other notable moment in the game was when France's Zinedine Zidane famously headbutted Italian defender, Marco Materazzi, which led to Zidane being sent off and what was to become one of the most talked about moments in Italy's history of football.
Italy's victory was their first world title in 24 years, and their fourth overall. The victory also led to Italy topping the FIFA World Rankings in February 2007 for the first time since November 1993.
